How to Make Gajar ka Halwa (Carrot ka Halwa)

This one straight from my mom's kitchen..... "Gajar ka Halwa", and a good news for health conscious people, it's fat free.....

For making it fat free we replace khoya with low fat milk powder.

Gajar ka Halwa

Preparation Time: 10 mins
Cooking Time: 15 mins
Makes 4 servings

  • 3 cups grated carrot
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 tbsp milk powder
  • 2 tbsp low fat milk
  • a pinch cardamom (elaichi) powder
  • 1 tbsp almond (badam) slivers
  • 1 tbsp ghee


  1. Steam the carrots over boiling water for 3 to 5 minutes.
  2. Heat the ghee in a pan, add the steamed carrots and saute for 2 minutes.
  3. Add the sugar and cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
  4. Add the milk powder and milk, mix well and cook for a few minutes, while stirring continuously.
  5. Sprinkle the cardamom powder and almonds and mix well.
  6. Serve hot.
